Lake Neuchâtel has a number of harbours and water sports facilities dotted around its shores:
Lake Neuchâtel is known for its winds, such as the Joran (westerly wind), which can pick up quickly. Its large surface area (215 km²) offers generous sailing space, but means you need to be alert to sudden weather changes.
A motorboat driving licence is compulsory for motorboats with more than 10 hp. For sailboats, a D (sailing) licence is required if the sail area exceeds 15 m².
Berths are managed by the harbour master's office in each port. Waiting lists are common, particularly in the main ports. LakeBoat.ch also advertises berths available for rent or sale.
The sailing season generally runs from April to October. June to September offer the most favourable conditions, with pleasant water temperatures and steady winds.
